Instruction, Guiding and advice
I am a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor this is the UK based qualification for instructing and guiding all aspects of walking, climbing and mountaineering in summer and winter in the UK. I've also used my experience and knowledge to work overseas and hold the International Mountain Leader Award for leading groups in a trekking environment abroad.
I've worked on the highest level of the UK Mountain Training Qualifications at Glenmore Lodge and for Plas Y Brenin training and assessing new Mountaineering Instructors and I provide Trainee Workshops for the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and mentorship for trainees working towards these Awards.
I was chosen as one of the first providers of the Climbing Coaching qualifications and bring my increasing understanding of how we learn to my own work.
It doesn't matter whether you want to take your first steps up a hill, are an indoor climber wanting to learn to lead outoors or are a Trainee Mountain Instructor working towards assessment. The business is only me. If you come to me that's who you get, I dont hire in other Instructors and if I'm not free I'll try to put you in touch with someone who is qualified and who I trust to help you who is local to the area you want to vist.
I'm a climber and a mountaineer. Since I was 18 and bought a one way ticket to Bolivia to climb my first peaks at altitude and to trek down to the yungas and paddle in the rainforests I've been climbing at home and on every other continent, both for work and pleasure. Its what I do and I'm passionate about it.
I live in Corpach near Fort William and at the foot of Ben Nevis with an active family and if I'm not climbing or mountaineering I'm planning my next trip to do it in the UK or further afield to places like: Greenland, Afghanstan, Patagonia, Uganda, Yemen, Norway, Spitsbergen, Spain, Malaysia or Pakistan.
